Vibe/Gender: Sweet, spicy, warm and resinous with an elegant Middle Eastern character. Completely unisex—the cotton candy adds sweetness, while juniper, clove, saffron and woods keep it from becoming overly feminine.
Brief Description: Illusion opens with sweet dried fruit and airy cotton sugar contrasted by crisp, slightly gin-like juniper berries. Clove and saffron quickly introduce a warm, smoky spiciness, with rose providing subtle softness. The drydown becomes woody, balsamic and smooth, combining vanilla, amber, cedar and warm resins. The cotton candy smells polished rather than juvenile.
Top Notes: Dried fruits, cotton sugar, juniper berries
Middle Notes: Rose, saffron, clove buds
Base Notes: Sweet vanilla, amber, gurjun balsam, cabreuva, cedarwood
Performance: Strong. The original EDP currently averages 7.9/10 for longevity and 7.8/10 for sillage on Parfumo. The newer Extrait averages 8.1/10 for longevity and 7.5/10 for sillage, although it has fewer ratings.
Comparisons: The saffron, airy sweetness and cedar may remind you slightly of Baccarat Rouge 540, while the spicy juniper and woody warmth can suggest Initio Oud for Greatness. However, Illusion contains no oud and is sweeter, fruitier and more balsamic than either one.
